Auburn and Opelika are home to much more than just Auburn University; many families and local businesses call this unique area home. Within this community, fall is an exciting time of year that features pumpkin patches, festivals, SEC football, and other outdoor activities that bring the residents together. Moving to a college town can be daunting, but here at Holland Homes we believe that this one-of-a-kind area has benefits for people of all ages. If you are considering making the Auburn Opelika area your home, we have provided a list of events you can attend in the community with your family and friends.
1. Saturdays at the Garden: O Grows Farmers Market
O Grows is a community-university partnership whose mission is to meet the food needs of all residents in a way that is economically, socially, and environmentally viable for future generations. If you are considering making the move to Auburn, this is a great way to immerse yourself in the local area. They will be hosting a farmer’s market every Saturday morning of October that is free and open to the public. This event will include local farmers, bakers, craftsmen/women, artisans, gardeners, and farm animals. There will also be workshops and educational activities.
2. Tipoff at Toomers
Tipoff at Toomers is a relatively new tradition at Auburn and allows the community to gather and support the university’s Men’s Basketball team. If you are new to the area, this is a great opportunity to experience the livelihood, spirit, and tradition that encompasses the Auburn community at Toomer's corner. This event will feature the Auburn University Men’s Basketball team, head coach, and other staff to kickoff the upcoming season. Food and drinks, games, competitions, and other outdoor activities will all be a part of this event. Admission is free and open to the general public.
3. Pine Hill Cemetery Lantern Tour
The Auburn Heritage Association hosts an annual Pine Hill Cemetery lantern tour as a fun way to learn about Auburn’s rich history. The tour is a walking experience that will take you back in time through Auburn’s oldest and most historic cemetery. The tour includes people dressed as characters that guide you through some of Auburn’s most memorable and important places. If you’re interested in seeing more about Auburn’s past, this is a great chance to get involved with the community members, and learn a thing or two! Tickets are $5 for students and $10 at the gate for all other attendees. For more information, visit their website.
